Promaxo Inc., a medical imaging, robotics, and AI technology company based in Oakland, California, has established a four-year research partnership with the University of Montreal Hospital Research Centre (CRCHUM). The collaboration focuses on advancing MRI-guided radiation oncology solutions for prostate cancer management and female genitourinary and obstetrics/gynecology applications, with support for Health Canada regulatory requirements. The TransMedTech Institute provided initial funding for this strategic initiative.
Dr. Cynthia Ménard, Radiation Oncologist and Chief of Radio-Oncology at CHUM, leads the clinical effort. She stated the collaboration aims to “improve the accuracy of image-guidance for needle navigation and brachytherapy, leading to improved patient outcomes.”
Jean-François Carrier, Associate Professor at Université de Montréal and TransMedTech Chair in medical imaging, serves as scientific project leader, bringing expertise in brachytherapy physics and medical imaging development.
Dr. Amit Vohra, Promaxo’s Founder and CEO, emphasized the company’s vision: “Our technology provides for compact, live MRI diagnosis and treatment in a physician’s office, with an open architecture to enable not only cancer management of the prostate, but also female GYN.”
